Landscapes
In landscapes I see natural graphic designs. I also feel the spirit of their environments. All the subjects that I paint are places that I have experienced while living in the mountains of Idaho and traveling all over with my husband, doing things like horse-back riding, hiking, mountain biking, white water and sea kayaking and back county or cross country skiing.
I even was inspired by a scene in Central Park in NYC where I happened to spot a lovely view of the Iconic former home of John and Yoko – “The Dakota” – in the last evening light with its reflection in the shimmering water.
This group of LANDSCAPE paintings represents just a small fraction of the thousands that have flowed through me for more than 50 years. As with my Abstract and Floral paintings, I work equally in both soft pastels and with oil paints.
Some oil paintings have been done on panels and framed. Others are done on canvases on which I like to paint around the sides of the stretcher bar frames to complete a view of an image.
Sometimes, with the pastel paintings, I continue images extending into the mat. In the 1990’s I started carving and painting some of the frames for both oils and pastels. Examples of all of these techniques can be seen in all my work. - G.P.L.
